We support families in a variety of ways so this list is not exhaustive. Please contact us if you feel you need support and we will help in any way we can. If you would like to register with a Children's Centre please click here

Baby Massage
Baby Massage is a lovely way to soothe, calm and enjoy time with your baby. Due to its popularity this course is referral only so please contact your local centre for further details.

Book Start
Bookstart Corner supports Children's Centres across England to help families that need extra support to develop a love of stories, books and rhymes.

It is aimed at families with children aged 12-24 months and allows Centres to offer support for Parens and Carers so that they may read together for pleasure with their children with confidence.

Bookstart is a FREE 4 week course which is delivered within the home which enables families to feel more secure and for the child to be able to explore and enhance their play and learning further.

Bra Fitting Service
If you are planning to breastfeed and would like to have a bra fitting for a nursing bra we have trained staff who can offer this service. We stock a selection of nursing bras and can order in additional sizes and styles if necessary. This service is offered in the later stages of pregnancy (from 36 weeks). Please contact your local centre for further details

Breast Pump Hire
Some of our Centres offer a breast pump hire service whereby we can rent one of our electric ARDO breastpumps to mums who are breastfeeding. This is a one off  cost of £10 per month (with a £10 refundable deposit)

Chatterbox Group
Chatterbox groups are run at various locations across the city. They are delivered in partnership with Health Visitors who are available throughout the session to weigh your baby and offer advice. Anyone from any area can attend any Chatterbox across the City.

Domestic Abuse Services
The Children's Centres work alongside agencies such as PDAS (Plymouth Domestic Abuse Service)  in order to provide support and training to families who may have suffered, or are suffering from, domestic abuse. For further information on available services please contact your local centre

Early Support Services
Our Early Support workers are available to offer advice and support on a variety of issues including breastfeeding, support with play, bookstart and home safety. Please contact your local Centre for more details

Great Expectations
Great Expectations is our free Antenatal course that is run across the city for parents/carers expecting a child.

This is a four week course consisting of 1 x two-hour session per week, which aims to provide parents-to-be/ with useful information and practical skills, to help them feel more comfortable about making choices for their new arrival, whether it is their first baby or not.

The course includes:

· A healthy pregnancy
· Changes to relationships
· Preparation for birth
· Birth assistance
· Bonding with baby
· Parental support

Latch On
Our Latch On groups are free drop in sessions for women who are pregnant, those currently breast feeding and those who may be considering breastfeeding and want to learn more about its benefits.

Parenting Courses
We run a variety of parenting courses across the city. Many are delivered in partnership with other agencies, including PIAS (Plymouth Information, Advice & Support). Courses include Incredible Years, Solihull, Freedom, CAST and  Five to Thrive. These can cover issues such as parenting, boundaries, relationships and domestic abuse. Post Natal Support Group
A free Stay and Play support group for new parents and their babies. This is run at various locations across the city.

Please note however that if attending the sessions in Central Cluster then pre-booking is necessary and you will need to contact the Centre on 01752 788992 to book your space in advance. Priority is given to families living within this area.

Safe at Home Scheme
If you have a child under 2 and are in receipt of certain benefits then you may be eligible for free home safety equipment. If you are eligible then a member of our team can arrange a FREE Safe at Home Assessment to help and advise you on keeping your children safer in the family home.

Step by Step
Our Step by Step groups are drop in groups that are delivered in partnership with the Plymouth Portage Service who will have a worker at each session alongside a worker from the Children's Centre. They will provide support, advice and play ideas to parents with children aged 0-4 who have concerns around their child's development.

Supporting Families
At Barnardos' Plymouth Children's Centres we understand that parenting can be challenging and all families experience difficulties at some time. If you feel you would benefit from free extra support, our friendly Supporting Families Team are avilable to listen and help you find clear and practical ways to cope when things get tough.

Barnardo's Plymouth Children's Centres aim to:

  • provide a range of community based support services
  • provide a menu of high quality activities and support services

Our service is community based and needs driven. It puts children and families first and empowers them to realise their potential through Antenatal/Postnatal contact & support; practical support, advice, guidance and signposting; various drop in services and for when parenting and relationships in the home are under pressure and family life is tough.
